The length and content of the ceremony is entirely up to you and , every humanist wedding is unique. No two people are the same and no two ceremonies are the same either. Most couples tend to opt for a duration of between twenty and thirty minutes which generally feels about right. I only ever book a single wedding on any given day so can be completely flexible regarding time, dependant on the Venue and any constraints they might impose.
As an accredited humanist celebrant, I would work closely with you both to create a celebration that was just right for you. I have been a Humanist all my life and began working as a celebrant with Humanists UK in 2018. Humanists UK have been the leading provider of meaningful, personalised, non-religious ceremonies for over 120 years. Humanists UK advances free thinking and promotes humanism to create a tolerant society where rational thinking and kindness prevail.
I love what I do and take great satisfaction in constructing bespoke ceremonies for the couples and families that I work with. I am now accredited to officiate at Weddings, Funerals and Namings and can deliver other celebrations of key life stages where requested.
Initially I would suggest we meet to talk about what you would like and for me to get a feel for you as a couple and more importantly allow you to check that I am the right “fit” for you. I want you to be comfortable with me and feel confident that I will deliver exactly what you want on the day. This meeting would be without obligation on your part and is just to allow us the opportunity to get to know one another and for you to be able to make an informed choice regarding choosing me to be your celebrant.
If you then decide to book me as your Celebrant we would then schedule a longer planning meeting to start to sketch out your day.
Although every humanist wedding is unique, a typical ceremony might be structured as follows:
If you don’t have anything specific in mind I have a range of poems, readings and symbolic acts that I could suggest, but the final choice is always yours.
Following the planning meeting I would write and share a first draft with you both and we would then work on this together until you were completely satisfied with the final script.
If the venue is available and you would like to have a rehearsal, I would suggest we meet the day before the wedding to have a run through, involving yourselves and any other active participants, so everyone is comfortable with their roles and feels confident about the day itself.
I currently charge £650 to write and deliver your celebration and ask for a deposit of £100 to secure the date of your choice, this includes writing and delivering your ceremony and my travel expenses. I will also provide you with a copy of the script and a certificate as keepsakes.
There really are endless possibilities and I would welcome the opportunity to discuss what might be best for you without any obligation on your part. Perhaps you could give me a ring on 01782 641660 and we can arrange an initial meeting? Or if you would prefer me to contact you, please let me have your number and availability and I will call you.
