Choosing the Right Wedding Bands

We’ll probably be the last folks to tell you that when it comes to planning a wedding, there’s thousands of thoughts racing through your mind. A musician or wedding band should be one!

We get it – you have to shortlist a venue, come up with a menu everyone will love, arrange for transport, pick the right wedding ring – alas, any bride and groom might find it exhausting.

One aspect of your wedding planning you should never take lightly is the entertainment. Choosing the right musician for wedding or wedding band will give you and your guests exciting memories they can fondly reminisce over many years later.

Once you have your heart set on a wedding band, here are a few things to consider to make the booking process as easy and hassle-free as possible:

First, talk things over with your venue supplier about having a wedding musician

Before even considering hiring a musician or wedding band, you need to have an honest conversation with the agency planning your wedding venue. This is important because many venues in the UK enforce strict limitations and even restrictions on live music.

If your venue allows live music, great! But you need to find out if there are any volume or ‘noise level’ restrictions. If there are, then you should communicate this to the wedding band/musician beforehand so that they can happily work within those limits.

You wedding venue supplier will most likely tell you about adhering to a sound limiter, if there is one, that is. Once you know what the decibel limit is, you can let your band know so that they’ll only bring the appropriate equipment. You certainly don’t want the band ripping a guitar solo in the air with half the neighbourhood complaining about too much noise!

Let’s set a budget for your wedding band, shall we?

So how much does it cost to hire a wedding band? Well this can vary dramatically, depending on what kind of music you want them to play and how many members there are in the band. Solo musicians might naturally charge less, although some established ones do charge more than most.

Just to give you an idea, the average cost of hiring a 4-member band is between £900 and £1,300, although some wedding suppliers can help you shortlist bands that can cost anywhere between £395 – £1895.

Many bands do, however, agree to show up with fewer members to help you stay within the confines of your budget. Alternatively, you can choose a duo act or solo wedding musician who can expertly replicate the skills of a full-band at a lower fee.

Book only through a trusted wedding supplier

Shortlisting your wedding band or solo wedding musician through an established and reputable UK wedding supplier brings a host of benefits.
